F Numbers Measurement
In the construction of concrete floors for industrial buildings, standards are required to regulate the quality of the surface to be used in the different types of floors, in order to have a record of each of the works that are constantly being built, it is necessary to have equipment to measure such quality, such as the precision profilers that currently exist in the region, such as the Dipstick.
ASTM E1155 and ACI117 F-Numbers standards determine the evaluation criteria for floors according to Ff and Fl values. These values tell us about the flatness and levelness of concrete floors, respectively.
The Ff number defines an evaluation criterion for short-amplitude undulations in the finished floor. Ff abbreviation for Floor flatness, defines the maximum allowable curvature of the floor every 24“ (600 mm), calculated on the basis of elevation differences of adjacent points by 12” (300 mm).
Fl or Fl number, short for Floor levelness, defines the variations in levelness, slope or large amplitude undulations of the finished floor. Fl determines the relative correspondence of the horizontal surface of the floor, measured at a distance of 10′ (3.05 m).
The ACI 117 committee, in conjunction with ACI 302R, recommends the specification of Ff and Fl numbers, according to the final one of the floor, as well as the techniques for their elaboration, giving meaning to the interpretation of F numbers.
